Bio
Jackson Petty is a singer-songwriter from Bryan, Texas, whose music draws from the storytelling traditions of Texas country and Americana while carrying the intimacy and honesty of modern indie folk. Currently a student at Texas A&M University, Jackson is building his live presence throughout Texas while writing and performing his first collection of original songs. With a sound shaped by artists ranging from Willie Nelson and Tyler Childers to Zach Bryan and Noah Kahan, he is finding his own place in a new generation of Texas songwriters.
Jackson fell in love with the guitar during his senior year of high school and largely taught himself by watching videos, practicing at home, and then doing the thing that ultimately taught him the most—getting out and playing in front of people. What began with a guitar and a desire to learn has grown through open mics, First Fridays, patios, stages, and late nights playing around Bryan and College Station. Along the way, performing has become less about learning how to play someone else's songs and more about discovering what he wants to say with his own.
That evolution is beginning to show up in Jackson's live sets. Alongside the songs and artists that have influenced him, he is now performing his own original material, including three songs currently making their way into his shows. His connection to his hometown is an important part of that emerging voice. Growing up around Downtown Bryan and its community of musicians, artists, independent businesses, and gathering places has given him an appreciation for the kind of music that works best when the distance between the songwriter and the audience is small.
Now Jackson is focused on writing more original music, continuing to perform, and taking the next steps toward recording his first songs. In the coming months, he hopes to begin recording his original material and eventually bring together a band to expand the sound he's been developing onstage.
